Review of the Wood Oven in Boscombe
If you are enjoying a sunshine filled day on the beach and looking for some freshly cooked, delicious hot food, then look no further than The Wood Oven located next to Boscombe Pier. On a warm, albeit slightly foggy, half term evening, I headed down with my family to try out some of the new pizzas on the menu and boy was it a treat!
The pizza menu contains 13 pizza choices, all of which are £12 each (except one) and all are large. Rather than the standard pizza toppings we come to expect from these type of places, there are a plethora of different, delicious choices – including vegan options as well as fresh fish, different vegetables and meats.
As well as the pizzas, there are also some brioche bap options (served with really great chunky chips if wanted) including a new fish option. (£8 or £10 with chips).
We chose to sample the Meatballer (pork and fennel meatballs, goats curd and roasted peppers), the Capricciosa (local ham, artichokes, mushrooms and black olives), as well as the fish brioche bap. My kids also sampled menu staples – the margarita pizza and the pulled pork brioche bap.
The pizzas are cooked in a large wood fired oven and the combination of the fresh toppings were fab! For me, the stand out was the fish brioche bap – 2 large pieces of pan fried seasonal fish (in my case it was haddock) with capers, mayo, rocket and fresh tomato on a large brioche roll – really, really tasty!
There is a large selection of soft drinks on the menu, including milkshakes and smoothies. If eating at the tables outside, you can also order drinks from neighbouring Urban Reef.
All of the above tastiness is available to eat on the tables outside, taken away to eat on the beach and it can also be ordered online and delivered to your door (within a 4 mile radius).
With handmade dough, delicious fresh ingredients (many of them locally sourced), made to order, the Wood Oven really is a delight – perfectly located right on our beautiful coastline. I really recommend and I’m just trying to work out an excuse to eat that fish brioche again…
