Review of the Station Kitchen in West Bay

After reading other reviews of The Station Kitchen in West Bay, I decided enough was enough and I couldn’t wait any longer to visit!

And its safe to say, I was not disappointed. Although we didn’t specifically ask for a table in the new carriage, we were lucky enough to get a table in there and it was stunning. For the whole time we were waiting for our food, we were looking around at all the interesting ornaments, photos and furniture that was in the carriage.

All the dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen we so beautifully presented, with a huge selection of unique plates, bowls and even mini baskets for the cheese biscuits. They have clearly put a huge amount of time and effort into the decoration of the carriage and restaurant area and this is definitely followed through with the stunning presentation of the food.

We shared the goats cheese salad to start. With crunchy and sweet walnut brittle, punchy sundried tomatoes and earthy roast beetroot this salad was perfectly balanced. In my opinion, they got the salad-to-topping ratio just right (heavy on the cheese!).

I chose the Lyme Bay mussels with lashings of cream, Somerset Cider, garlic and leeks – the mussels were ginormous and so fresh. The creamy sauce was simply delicious (especially when mopped up with some sourdough), with lots of fresh parsley and sautéed leeks.

Adam had the chicken breast, stuffed with camembert and wrapped in prosciutto, creamy mustard mash, wilted and very garlicy greens and a rich jus.

I cannot write a post on the Station Kitchen without mentioning Gin! And over 70 kinds! We will definitely be visiting on several more occasions if we are going to try all of these!
