The school holidays have begun and I was thrilled to be invited into the Real Eating Company in Bournemouth to try their delicious food and drinks – the perfect activity for myself and my kids on a sunny day.
The Real Eating Company was started in 2004 by Helena Hudson with a focus on sustainability and being as locally sourced as possible. Today there are 5 cafes across the South East, including 1 in Bournemouth on Yelverton Road.
One of their core values is to always favour quality of the produce over how low they can drive the price and to source their products from great local producers. The cafe is chock full of local jams, cakes and drinks, their sandwiches and menu items are all made on site, using meat from local farms and you can even see details of some of their producers on their website.
I visited the cafe on Yelverton Road, a stones throw from the bustling high street and in a sunny position. I chose a toasted sandwich filed with spinach, pesto, mozzarella and avocado and my boys shared an enormous cooked breakfast. There is a wide range of hot and cold sandwiches available, plus daily specials and an extensive cooked breakfast menu available all day and with options for all appetites!
For afters, should you have any room left, there are a selection of handmade cakes, pastries and fruit. They also have a range of cold drinks as well as tasty teas and coffees.
The cafe had a lively buzz with people coming and going throughout our visit and the staff were constantly smiley and helpful. The cafe was filled with all sorts – from someone working on their computer, to families, couples, meetings, chatter and laughter. Its a great little stop from a busy day in town or on the way to the beach, close enough to the action but far enough away to still be quiet. Its also lovely to find somewhere with a focus on local – just the kind of place I look for!
I haven’t been to this cafe before and I am so glad I have been introduced to it – I will definitely be back!
