Review of Jurassic Coast Farm Shop

With autumn here, the nights drawing in and the temperature dropping, finding ways to not have to venture outside can be very tempting. Top that off with a global Pandemic (and a touch of panic buying beginning to empty supermarket shelves again) and local farm shop home deliveries are quite frankly a thing of beauty!

Jurassic Coast Farm Shop is the product of a farming family who have been loving and caring for their produce on their farm land for decades. After raising dairy cattle and then grass fed and free range Aberdeen Angus beef and English Rose veal, Jurassic Meats launched Jurassic Coast Farm Shop in 2018. Committed to sustainability and caring deeply for the animals in their care, they work hard to source local fruits and vegetables, cheese and eggs, as well as sustainably sourced fish and free range meats, from farmers who share a similar philosophy to their farm and produce.

Jurassic Coast Farm Shop is full of locally sourced fresh and dry food items that you can either visit in person (see below for opening times) or have delivered directly to your home address. They stock a number of different locally sourced and tasty options including a variety of meat boxes, plus fresh fruit and veg boxes. They also have mixed boxes of basic items that you might restock each week (including meat, dairy, fruit and veg) plus dairy items, fish, condiments, jams, chutneys, spices, dry goods (like local tea and coffee) and snacks. Jurassic Coast Farm Shop have worked hard to carefully consider their box options and have options for students, boxes for Sunday roasts, holiday options and boxes full of decadent treats (like smoked salmon and scallops).

On Monday, I was gifted a delightfully full of box of goodies to celebrate the imminent launch of their new subscription service. Launching soon, not only can you order via their website a host of fresh and dry food items for home delivery, you will also be able to setup a regular delivery of your favourites.

I was delivered a ‘Household Favourites’ box (small) which cost £45 and contained:

1 x 400g Beef Mince
1 x Chicken fillets (2 per pack)
1 x Salmon fillets (2 per pack)
1 litres Milk
1 box Eggs
1kg New Potato
500g Carrots
1 punnit of Cherry Tomatoes
150g Fine green beans
1 Savoy cabbage
1 Cucumber
1 pack of Little gem lettuce
250g Mushrooms
1 pack of Spinach
1kg Bananas
1kg Apples
500g Pasta
1 Coastal Cheddar

It was delivered to me safely by one of the Jurassic Coast Farm Shop’s friendly drivers, clad in mask and gloves, and I gleefully opened the delivery. My savoy cabbage was substituted by a red cabbage but other than that, everything was as expected, ripe and ready to eat.

This week, I have very much enjoyed using my box of goodies in a myriad of ways as I have cooked for my family! So far this week I have made… a cake with the eggs (I think the apples may go the same way… there is an apple fritter recipe on my list to try), a spaghetti bolognese, a salmon teriyaki dish and the new potatoes accompanied a home made pie. The lettuce and cucumber disappeared into wraps, the cheese grated onto baked beans and the bananas made great snacks. I think the red cabbage and the carrots might end up cooked with a lovely Sunday roast.

Jurassic Coast Farm Shop do have a local store open just outside Winfrith Newburgh on the A352 between Wool and Dorchester. It is full of all the treats you can find on their website and you can also arrange to collect your website choices there rather than have them delivered if you wish. The shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays between 9am and 1pm and Saturday between 9am and 3pm. To help keep people safe, only 1 person is allowed in the shop at any one time.

The Jurassic Coast Farm Shop now also have their Christmas choices live to pre-order for Christmas delivery in December. If you are considering sourcing your Christmas treats locally this year, you can see Jurassic Coast Farm Shop’s entire Christmas range on their website and I would recommend booking a December delivery slot early.

To order from their website, your total must be over £45, which if you live in Dorset, includes free delivery. Jurassic Coast Farm Shop have their own fleet of vans and drivers and happily deliver your items to you Tuesday – Saturday (deliveries can be made to addresses outside of Dorset, with a delivery fee of £5.95).

If you are looking to buy more local products then Jurassic Coast Farm Shop provide a quick and safe way to choose your favourite local products and have them delivered directly to your door.

You can check out their full list of items on their website – https://jurassiccoastfarmshop.co.uk/

The box of groceries was gifted and delivered free of charge.
