Review of the Curlew restaurant in Parley

Have you been to The Curlew restaurant in Parley before? It’s a gorgeous Georgian building, a stone’s throw from Bournemouth International Airport (so close you could see your friends arriving from Mallorca, pay your bill and reach the airport before they’ve sailed through passport control).

I haven’t visited The Curlew for a few years; I’ve always chosen a table outside in the ample garden (it’s far enough away from the road) as it’s always been heaving inside. If i’m honest, I wasn’t that enamoured by their food in the past.

BUT, they’ve a refurb – not just of their interior (which is much lighter, brighter and has some chic touches, from gorgeous panelled walls to stylish bar lighting) but their menus have had some HUGE changes too. The deputy manager told me: “Up until now we were a classic pub – not getting busy until lunch time, so we have introduced a brunch menu. We don’t want our chefs sat twiddling their thumbs!”

…I can vouch that they clearly haven’t had time to twiddle their thumbs! The brunch menu is delish. I’m not a vegetarian but I love to try the non-meat option. The Veggie Breakfast was lovely; the sour dough toast, the roasted mushrooms , the hash browns – and my absolute favourite – the beetroot hash cake. SO tasty!

My friend had the Eggs Royale as she was craving smoked salmon; but the smashed avocado looked so good that she asked if she could have some on the side! It actually looked so good with the muffins – I think the chef may add it to be a regular dish…

The oat milk cappuccino is lovely (I don’t drink cow’s milk and I am a coffee FREAK) and passed my strict (ha!) test. The drinks are served in beautiful earthenware, which in my book is a great touch (and also great for Insta shots!) I recommend the Green Tea Sencha if you love green.

The sun was shining on our day in February (a rarity amongst this constant rain!) so we took a few pics outside in the garden. The Curlew is open from March, so why not take your mum for a not-so-traditional brunch at The Curlew for Mother’s Day? Take a warm cover up and sit in the sun with some smashed avocado and an oat milk latté. It’ll be a lovely start to the day!
