Review of Coastal Forage Pies

In these last few weeks, we have loved discovering oodles of Dorset’s independent food and drink businesses and when Coastal Forage Pies contacted us, we jumped at the chance of trying their handmade pies.

Coastal Forage Pies was founded in July 2019 by Jenny after Jenny struggled to find a tasty pie that could cater for a family who had a range of dietary requirements. After much experimenting, Jenny has created a tasty range of individual gluten free pies that are also either vegan or vegetarian.

Filled to the brim with locally sourced and seasonal produce, foraged from small Dorset producers, the ingredients are slow roasted and carefully combined to pack a punch with the flavour. The pies come fully cooked so they can be eaten hot or cold and they make a lovely addition to a picnic on the go or a family dinner at home.

I was able to try some of the savoury pies and the shortcrust pastry was delicious with the perfect crumble (but not so much that they fell apart when cutting – difficult to do with gluten free pastry!). The fillings were tasty, full of flavour and filled the pie case. My favourite was the vegan Mexican bean & Pepper pie with its hint of sweetness and a hit of spice. I paired mine with some sweet potato fries and a little Oatly crème fraîche …it tasted amazing!

Coastal Forage Pies also have a couple of sweet flavours, including Apple & Parsnip pie and an Apple and Blackberry pie, both with toffee crumble and both gluten free and vegan.

These delicious pies are a great portable lunch for all the family, especially tasty if you follow a gluten free or vegan diet.

You can currently find Coastal Forage Pies in some of Dorset’s independent farm shops and delis but you can also purchase them direct from Jenny. They can be purchased frozen in bags of 4, 10 or 20 with free delivery within 4 miles of Poole.

To purchase for home delivery, just contact Jenny via the website –
