Review of Captain Cod in Christchurch

It might be the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown, but after deciding as a family that we’d love to see if we could find a fish and chip takeaway for our Saturday evening meal, I discovered this gem of a fish and chip shop!

Located in the heart of Christchurch, Captain Cod has been open for the last 21 years. Last year they undertook a large refurb and launched their own app to make ordering even easier.

On Saturday, I downloaded their (free) app to order and quickly realised that I could order mid-afternoon for a specific delivery time in that evening. They are still operating their entire menu with includes all the usual chip shop favourites like cod, haddock, pies, sausages and chicken. They also offer fish finger butties which my son LOVED (‘better than McDonalds’… high praise indeed!), chicken burgers, bacon or sausage baps and lots of kids menu options.

These are all offered alongside a wide range of sides like mushy peas, pickled gherkins, sauces and a really tasty curry sauce.

They also detail all the allergens beside every dish so it is easy to spot if you have a dietary intolerance and they have an extensive gluten free menu, as well as lots of vegetarian options.

Their dessert menu contains battered mars bars and apple pies and for anyone with a super sweet tooth… battered creme eggs! They also have a wide range of soft drinks, including freshly made milk shakes.

If you are also looking for a quick and cheaper alternative, great for after a long day at work for a family, they also offer a family meal of 4 sausages and 2 large bags of chips for £7. They are also offering 10% off for Blue Light Card holders (and will bump you to the front of the queue) as well as 10% off for taxi drivers.

We ordered our food for delivery early evening and our food was cooked fresh for our time slot and arrived to us in the evening piping hot and crispy! It tasted delicious and was a lovely treat at the end of a sunny day.

Captain Cod in Christchurch are offering an excellent service in these weird times and we are delighted to have found them. You can either download their app (ios or android) or you can order and pay via their website – www.captaincodchristchurch.co.uk.

They are open 7 days a week between 5pm and 8pm and for lunch Tuesday – Saturday (11:30am – 2pm). You can also call them on 01202 499667.
