I’ve had the pleasure of watching this cafe develop from just a table in the park to a gorgeous, fully renovated building and it was even more of an honour to witness its opening.
In their own words – “Joy Cafe is a lush little cafe in Churchill Gardens, Boscombe. We really love our community and are all about bringing people together to enjoy great friendships, food & fun.” Located right in the heart of Boscombe and in the corner of a beautiful, green square complete with kids play area, allotment and large grassy area, this cafe has been designed to be a place of community to the surrounding houses, a place where kids can play safely and parents and carers can connect over great coffee and delicious food.
The cafe is supported and underpinned by Coastline Vineyard Church and fronted by Becky Playfair, who has put in countless hours to dream, plan, fundraise, host, design, meet, learn, talk, renovate and taste test. The journey to get to this point has been long and undulating but proof that perseverance and belief in the power of community and of blessing others.
The project has also had the support of local councillors and groups, who have been working with Becky to transform the area.
The coffee beans for the artisan drinks are provided by South Coast Roast and much of the food and cakes will be cooked in house including breakfast baps and lunch paninis and soup. It was officially opened by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bournemouth today and from tomorrow, Joy Cafe will be open every Tuesday – Friday from 8:30am – 4pm and 10am – 1pm on Saturdays.
Edited to add: Joy Cafe also has a range of community coffee mornings like a craft morning, chess morning etc for locals to meet each other over a shared passion. Check out details for these on their social pages.
