There is a new cocktail bar called Dark Bear opened in Bridport, it takes over the Aroma Cafe from 18:00 till late, Wednesday through to Saturday. Dark Bear is a joint venture by Lloyd Brown & David Smith, who are Dorset’s leading mixologists. We were unable to attend the opening night in March, so we headed to their first event of the year, the Koniks Tail masterclass with Pleurat Shabani and Cameron Moncaster.

The event was held in the newly renovated Literary & Scientific Institute, just a few doors down from Dark Bear. It was worth attending just to see this wonderful community led building, its a must visit if you are ever in Bridport.

Pleurat spoke passionately about his life and how he developed his Koniks Tail vodka close to the Bialowieza Forest in Poland. Behind the scenes Cameron Moncaster of the Mandrake Hotel and David Smith (Dark Arts Distillery) where preparing the two, three or was it four cocktails that we enjoyed that evening!

Then we all headed to the Dark Bear to find Lloyd preparing our final cocktail of chocolate, coffee & vodka – delicious. Dark Bear was by now busy with people and an amazing atmosphere. All enjoying one of the huge range of cocktails available, they also serve beers, wine and ciders. We sat with Keith & Julie, who with the help of Lloyd are organising a Gin Fest in Ferndown this autumn – one to watch out for.

If you like cocktails made with the finest Dorset ingredients, then Dark Bear is where you should head for…
