Review of Brewhouse & Kitchen – Poole

I am familiar with the Brewhouse & Kitchen chain of pub/restaurants as we live close to the establishment in Southbourne, but its been a while since I have had the pleasure to eat there. When we were recently kindly invited to the Poole Brewhouse & Kitchen, I was definitely keen to try the new menu.

The Brewhouse & Kitchen in Poole is located just behind the main shopping High Street and the Dolphin Centre. It has plenty of seating inside as well ample deck area outside and we were seated in a cute little ‘beach hut’ in the rear garden.

Every Brewhouse & Kitchen, as the name might suggest, has its own micro-brewery onsite so as well as the extensive drinks menu, they also offer their own range of beers. The Brewhouse & Kitchen are so proud of their beer brewing that they also offer all sorts of beer related events including the chance to brew your own beer – all of the details can be found on their website.

We were given small tasters of all their beers by the Head Brewer and they range in flavour and composition from the heavy stouts to the much lighter ales. I chose one of the seasonal beers which was infused with lime and was zesty and light. Andy chose, after much deliberation, the American Pale Ale. I also loved the chocolatey stout that we were treated to at the end of the meal – the perfect way to round off the evening.

When it comes to the menu, the Brewhouse & Kitchen restaurants are well known for their ‘beer-can chicken’ which is made by roasting the chickens upright on a can of American Pale Ale so that the meat remains juicy and infused with the delicate beer flavours.

The menu has a wide choice of options, from fish and chips (made with a beer batter obviously!), to their twist on the classic Moules Frites. They also have an extensive range of burgers and a delicious range of sides. The menus are mid-range in price with a main menu item being around £13 – £15.

To try as much of the menu as we could, Andy and I shared the BBQ platter which included the beer-can chicken, slow cooked beef brisket, ‘Bar-Beer-Que’ ribs, pork belly burnt ends and 3 sides (we had sweet potato fries, onion rings and buttery mushrooms). This was also really reasonably priced at £27.95.

We had a good look at the kids menu as we had our boys with us and they had a great set of options to choose from. Toby choose the fish and chips and Samson had the chicken goujons, both opting to switch in the corn on the cob for peas.

When the food arrived, we were all hungry and ready to dive in… and what a feast we had! The pork belly burnt ends in particular, were delicious, with just the right amount of kick. The chicken was as juicy as I expected it to be and the ribs were delicious. Our kids enjoyed their meals… and they enjoyed ours too! We had fun sharing all the food and for my kids especially, trying and loving some new flavours.

The food was so delicious, we barely had room for pudding so most of us opted for ice cream, but Andy had enough room to sample the sticky toffee pudding. The Brewhouse & Kitchen pubs all serve Jude’s ice cream, which is made just up the road in Winchester and is really tasty so we all enjoyed our puddings!

We had a really fun evening at the Brewhouse & Kitchen. The atmosphere is relaxed and the serving staff were friendly. We giggled and feasted our way through the evening in our little Beach Hut! If you are in Poole and you need somewhere to go to relax, try some tasty, home-brewed beers and enjoy some good food, then I recommend the Brewhouse & Kitchen.
