Proud to say that The Brewers is our local and for the last four years it has been a warm welcoming pub, with good pub grub & friendly landlords. So when we heard that they were leaving, it raised a few alarm bells, would the new landlords change what we have grown to love?
The change-over must have been the smoothest that The Brewers has ever witnessed (we have had quite a few stormy ones!). All the staff, including the Chef Duncan remain and the new landlords Ben & Leanne Carter slipped in without a lot of people even realising. Ben & Leanne only took over the helm two weeks ago and we were looking forward to meeting them as we headed down for a good old family Sunday lunch there.
Once inside and we were very warmly welcomed by Leanne, drinks were ordered, coats hung up and highchair fastened. It was also nice to meet Leanne’s Mum, who is part of this family orientated team.
The Sunday menu is nice and short:- for starters they have classics such as garlic mushrooms, chilli prawns, whitebait, goats cheese & pate. Sunday is the day for roast dinners and you can choose from roast beef or roast chicken. They also have a couple of vegetarian options, nut roast or cauliflower cheese. But I was drawn to their homemade steak & ale pie, with roast potatoes & veg or you could have it with chips & beans. The children’s menu is great value and for £6.00 you get a main meal, plus a dessert.
The majority had ordered roast beef and when it arrived there was certainly a lot of beef on the plate, it came with roast potatoes, homemade Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and a good sized gravy boat full of scrumptious gravy. (we actually devoured two gravy boats!)
The pastry sitting on top of my Steak & Ale Pie was a deliciously buttery crust, inside it was stuffed full on succulent melt in your mouth beef, swimming in a hearty rich gravy. It was even better washed down with a large glass of Malbec.
There was a good selection of homemade desserts, cheesecake, treacle sponge, sticky toffee pudding and ice-creams. We had the raspberry cheesecake, treacle sponge, sticky toffee pudding & an ice-cream. All were delicious and our Grandson seriously enjoyed his blackcurrant & clotted cream ice-cream…
We all agreed that Ben & Leanne will do a grand job of keeping the pub as the friendly focal point of the village. They are also keeping the locals favourites, curry night on Tuesday nights, quiz night on Wednesday nights and of course proper roast dinners on Sundays.
