Review of the Cocktails at Urban Garden in Bournemouth

On Tuesday 19th November, Dorset Foodie Family were invited to take part in a Cocktail Masterclass, to celebrate the launch of The Urban Guild’s new cocktail menu.

The Urban Gardens is Urban Guild’s newest venue and is located in Bournemouth town centre, overlooking the gardens. There is a really great outside area, with an elevated view of Bournemouth gardens. In the summer, it is a lovely place to sit outside and enjoy a refreshing cocktail. Although currently, there is a great view of the Christmas lights.

I went along to meet head barman, Gui, along with other local bloggers to make and taste the new cocktails on offer. Gui was welcoming and very knowledgeable about all of the cocktails.

The first cocktail I made was ‘Quiqui Fizz’; The sweetness of raspberries & vanilla, the dryness of prosecco & the outrageous smokiness of QuiQuiRiQui Mezcal. This cocktail is £8.50. This wasn’t my favourite – a bit too dry for me – but the other ladies loved it.

Next up is ‘Distinction Rebellion’ at £8.00; Saving the world one drink at a time. A double measure of eco-friendly Sapling vodka, fresh lemon, apple & ginger with a dash of organic agave syrup. This one had really lovely flavours.

The ‘Smoked Pineapple Old Fashioned’ at £9.00 was definitely the star of the show, visually. A blend of Plantation Pineapple rum and Spiced Kraken, sugar and orange bitters. Served smoked with orange infused wood chips. The flavour was smoky but not overpowering.

And finally, my favourite; ‘Apricot in my Bourbon’ at £8.00. Shaken Bulleit Bourbon & Apricot Liquer with lemon, sugar, syrup, bitters & egg white finish (egg white optional). Delicate & refined. I wasn’t sure about this one, with it containing egg white, but it is just the right amount of sweet and reminds me of lemon meringue. Any drink that’s like a dessert is a winner in my book!

Cocktail making is an art form and The Urban Garden has perfected it. This is a fab place to go with some friends or colleagues for Christmas drinks. They also have a great looking menu, so I’ll have to force myself to return to try that too! 😉
